One of the huge benefits of 3D movies is that a number of exciting new film releases are joined by some old favourites that have been reworked and re-released as 3D versions. That is certainly the case at the start of 2012 as some true cinema classics line up alongside some eagerly awaited new arrivals throughout the year.
February sees the release of Star Wars Episode 1, the Phantom Menace as the much loved series begins in all of its 3D glory. You can expect all the special effects to be intensified in a new dimension as fans of the Star Wars collection look forward to further episodes in the years to come.
The Phantom Menace is joined by Journey 2, The Mysterious Island, a much anticipated sequel that stars Michael Caine, Dwayne Johnson and Vanessa Hudgens. As the follow up to the successful `Journey to the Centre of the Earth`, the 3D effects in this movie promise to be quite stunning.
Completing February`s 3D line up is Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance with Nicholas Cage reprising his role of Johnny Blaze. Fast paced motorcycle action will be truly enhanced with the benefit of a third dimension.
Moving through March and April and there are some stunning releases awaiting movie goers. These include Disney`s John Carter and Dr Seuss the Lorax which features the vocal talents of Danny Devito and Zac Efron amongst others.
Perhaps the most eagerly anticipated 3D film of 2012 comes along in April with the re-release of Titanic for 2012. The planning for a 3D version of this classic movie has taken a full two years and we are promised by the director that the effects will be truly spectacular.
Titanic was simply huge when it was first released back in 1997 and if the 3D adaptation lives up to its expectations then this could be the highlight of the year for many movie fans.
A new release for 2012 is Men in Black III which comes along after a ten year gap between its predecessor. This is another film that seems perfect for the 3D stage with a number of incredible special effects to look forward to. Fans of the first two Men in Black movies will also be delighted to see Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones reprise their respective roles.
Other re-releases for 2012 are Finding Nemo, Halloween and the Great Gatsby while new arrivals to look forward to include Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter and Hotel Transylvania.
The horror genre is one that can benefit greatly from the growth of 3D and as such, you can expect to see many more re-releases in the coming months and years. Another old favourite to resurface in 2012 is the Texas Chainsaw Massacre which can only be enhanced by some grisly 3D effects.
Overall this promises to be a stunning year with many mouth watering 3D releases, new and old to look forward to. Remember to keep checking the schedules and to book Box Office theatre tickets early in order to avoid disappointment.
